Proper Problem Reporting for the TFDi Design 717   07/09/2017

Folks, As the user count is increasing, it is becoming more of a task for us to stay on top of problem reports. We are also receiving an increasing amount of incomplete reports that we are unable to follow up on (which frustrates everyone, us included). On that note, we are going to be enforcing a stricter formal problem reporting system. There are a few main points that need to be addressed. ALL problem reports must be submitted via the Bugs and Suggestions system. Open discussion on the forums is fine, but our team simply cannot respond to every single comment (especially when the majority of doing so is asking for information the Bugs and Suggestions system already asks for). Incomplete reports will be ignored. This means reports like "my FPS is bad" will not be given weight. This isn't because we don't care. It is because a report like that does absolutely nothing for anyone - we can't fix it based on that. Please include EVERYTHING you can possibly think of regarding the problem and take as many steps as you can to isolate it. Prepar3D v4, despite what you have heard, can still be unstable. Yes, it is definitely possible to fly flights without issues. But it is still relatively new, as are most of the addons available for it. Please refrain from attacking us or other developers because of this. We have already had one scenario where a 717 CTD was resolved by an update to Prepar3D itself. This is likely not the only time that will be the case. You are still free to report the crashes, as it may help whoever the developers of the faulting code are solve the issue. Duplicate reports will be deleted/merged. For the sake of sanity for us trying to prioritize and evaluate issues, if we discover multiple reports of the same thing, we may merge/delete the duplicates. We strongly encourage you to search and see if your problem has been reported before. Thank you all in advance. This may seem overbearing, but this is the only way we are going to be able to stay on top and continue heading in the direction we, and the community, want.

CTD when going back to cockpit

Question

Dear TFDI team,

while I'm a big fan of your 717 in general, I have one very annoying problem that remains: When I change the view to the outside and then back to the cockpit, I often get a CTD - the screen freezes for a few seconds, then the sim just disappears, sometimes with an error message, but in most cases without anything! I've got P3D v4.0 installed.

When P3D4 was new, I thought it might be something else, because it also happened in other aircraft. But meanwhile, all the other complex airliners (PMDG and Aerosoft CRJ) run very stable, but only in the 717 I frequently get this problem. It doesn't always happen, but, let's say if you change the view 10x a flight, you've got a very high chance that it happens once and your flight is over.

As the TFDI 717 updates itself when opening the TFDI manager, the version shouldn't be an issue. I should always have the newest version of your 717. I've tested this in various scenery environments: It also happens in areas without any addon sceneries and thus seems to be independent from the complexity of the sourrounding area. Always had the newest NVidia driver installed.

My system: i5 3570k @ 4,3 GHZ, Geforce GTX 970, 8 GB RAM, 3x SSD 512GB, Win 10 with the newest updates, Prepar3D v4.0.28.21686

Have you got an idea, what could be wrong here?

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Dominik

Hi, I also get the same problem as DeeJay. I don't get any error messages when it occurs, P3D just freezes and crashes.

717 v1.0.9.14 installed. My specs are: i7-3770, 16Gb RAM, GeForceGTX 1080, 2Tb HDD, Windows 10 64-bit. I was experiencing this with P3D v4.0 and thought it best to wait and see if 4.1 fixed the issue. 4.1 is now installed and the issue persists. Like DeeJay, I am also a big fan of this product and hope the issue can be identified and fixed.

Thanks for the support! We are aware of the issue and trying to get a full crash analysis to send over to Lockheed Martin. There is something within the main sim's code that is causing this crash because it happens even when all of our code is disabled.

Same here - moved view in VC from outside view to centre console, clicked the electrical display button and sim locked up, repeating sound loop. Needed to hold down power button on PC to escape.

Any updates on this issue? I have all major addons on P3DV4.1, PMDG, FSLABS, MJC, NONE of them crash when switching views only the 717 does it for me? This has been a known issue for months now.

We've reached out to LM and to my understanding, they have resolved this within their code. I'm not sure when it'll be released, as I have not seen this issue patched in their 4.1 changelog. Hopefully soon.

I have now completed 7 or 8 flights successfully by not changing to an external view. It is worth it as it is the only way I can avoid a CTD, but isnt easy not to peek, as it is a great external model. Really looking forward  to this being fixed up
